A unique exhibition of full-size models!
Step back in time 290 million years to when bizarre-looking animals dominated life on land and sea, and find out about the greatest extinction the world has ever seen in Permian Monsters: Life before the Dinosaurs.

This unique exhibition brings the past back to life with fossilised skeletons and full-size life models and animatronics of the animals that ruled the world millions of years before the age of dinosaurs, in a time known as the Permian.

Smokefree Rockquest is back!
Smokefreerockquest is New Zealand’s only nationwide, live, original music, youth event. Now in its 30th year, the series of over 40 events reaches audience numbers in excess of 10,000 every year.

Founded in 1989 by music teachers Glenn Commonand Pete Rainey, Smokefreerockquest has now become a New Zealand institution.

Smokefreerockquest aims to motivate young musicians to prove their ability and realise the heights they can reach in their music careers, and to encourage their peers to support original New Zealand music.

Chamber Music NZ Presents: The Korekore

A Matariki-inspired tour
Chamber Music New Zealand and Puke Ariki are joining forces to present a Matariki inspired tour that showcases elements of chamber music, video, Māori music and storytelling in unique settings outside the concert hall.

Te Korekore is a one-hour, multi-genre performance work that weaves a narrative around the traditional story of Tinirau and Kae with video art, story-telling, contemporary NZ chamber music, jazz-based composition and ngā taonga puoro.

The story of Tinirau and Kae is told in many parts of Aotearoa and is associated with Te Whare Tapere, the place where traditional Māori entertainment would occur, especially during the Matariki season.

This is a family-friendly performance.

Pukekura Park

Often described as the jewel in New Plymouth's crown, Pukekura Park covers 52ha (128 acres) right in the heart of the city and is one of New Zealand's premier botanical gardens. The park has an international Green Flag award and is a Garden of National Significance. As a popular destination for locals and visitors alike, Pukekura Park lights up over the summer as the backdrop for the annual TSB Bank Festival of Lights.

Coastal Walkway

Pioneer Park, Port Taranaki

The Wind Wand is located on the scenic Coastal Walkway, an award-winning 11km path between the town centre and the ocean. Te Rewa Rewa Bridge is inspired by a whale skeleton. The “ribs” arch over the bridge from one side to the other. This stretch of path is a must-do walk in the greater Taranaki region.

Translating as ‘Hill of Chiefs’, Puke Ariki is home to the i-SITE, a museum, a library, a cafe and the fabulous Arborio restaurant. The excellent museum has an extensive collection of Māori artefacts, plus colonial, mountain geology and wildlife exhibits.
